The BDB is firmly committed to climate‑responsive planning and construction – through its "BDB Climate Construction Plan", which lays out ten demands for planners, policymakers, and industry to drastically cut CO₂ emissions in the building sector . This is complemented by the "BDB 5 NB" training program, enabling planners to integrate sustainability transparently into building permit applications.

The most important objectives of the BDB include promoting the idea of the construction team and the associated targeted and responsible cooperation between architects, civil engineers and contractors in the planning, preparation and execution of construction projects, as well as promoting climate-friendly planning and construction and helping to establish the use of digital planning methods such as BIM.
